Assalamualaikum,
Recently I have created an account on LinkedIn after reading an article about "How to Get Yourself to an Employment" - well, the title something sort of like this - and I really got myself influenced by the article.
The main reason I created the account is to increase the chance of myself to be seen by my employer-to-be. Well, some of us who wants to be employed may see this as a very small non-important matter to be taken as a serious one. But to the employers who interviewed you might see this a serious important matter for the sake of their company!
To get this to sense,
how about putting yourself into a place as an employer? You interviewed someone for any position in your company. 99% of candidates you interviewed were confirmed to be people you have never known. Other than checking information with Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara & hiring a private investigator to investigate their backgrounds - which will consume your money & time - for sure you will try the fastest way which is by searching their information through search engine on internet! The least information you will get from the search result about a candidate, is from his/her Facebook account.
However, one's Facebook account does not really reliable and very lack of information. Some of the employers may stalk their candidates on Facebook. But WHY?? The answer is, to know the Facebook user's mentality and mindset.
YES! Did you know what we posted and shared (and liked also - but luckily, what we liked can't be viewed on our profile timeline by non-FB friend) on Facebook reflecting our mindset? Those statuses you posted and shared were a proof of what kind of things you are interested of and it also reflects the way you thinking.
Someone posted about good things doesn't really proved that he/she is a really good person. But, those posted & shared negative-based status sure are focusing on that kinda negative things. Honestly, it's not good to be seen bad and negative by others. It's not that you are being two-faced with yourself and/or others. Take it as a mental training for you to develop a better and healthy way of thinking. A healthy mind help one to be more critical in thinking.
Back to the reason of me posting this entry which is LinkedIn. I found that LinkedIn is a very good platform to know someone better and the information may more reliable if compared to information obtained from Facebook. Another good sources are Google+ and Blog, if that person has one. Let me describe to you some personal benefits I can get from LinkedIn :
1) LinkedIn are full with professional people who also wants to be seen on the internet. For example, if you typed my name on engine search, the result for the search will not only from Facebook account I have, but also my other accounts on Blogger and other social media platforms. Based on followers and connections I have on these platforms, the viewer believes that I am known by many people and there is chance that what I stated in the blog might be more than 50% are truth (well, i am not really sure if 50% trusted means really can be trusted according to some people. At least, it helps proving that my account is not a spammer account.).
2) LinkedIn allows me to 'show off' my achievements and enrolments along the period of my life! - Yup, by showing off your achievements & projects will help you to get more connections on LinkedIn. More connection, more trusted you are! But make sure of yourself to be honest with what you stated in your profile!
3) It is one of many ways for me to promote my business products and project(s) I involved with. Moreover, employers are seeking for people who have a lot of experiences handling any kind of projects, which means these people have or are developing their softskills. But for now, I will be more focus on the project(s) and part-time business is not my priority until I graduated. I will share an entry later for the projects I involved with.
4) LinkedIn allows people like me whom like to do blog, to share my writings with moooore people. Since I am looking forward for professional connections, I must improve the way of my writing. I must improve my grammars and vocabularies. Since I joined LinkedIn, I found a lot of good articles published by many professional people. I hope their articles will keep inspiring and help motivating me to improve my English writings.
So these are my personal opinions of how LinkedIn can help me to get employed. Anyway, I am not relying on these social platforms 100% to get myself employed. I still believe in Qada' & Qadar, destiny fixed by Allah. This will be one of my efforts after I planned, and then I will let everything to Allah (Tawaqal).
I love to make networking with new acquaintances (for professional purpose only) and promoting the project(s) I currently involved with. I feel so excited to share with ya about the projects and result of my reading on how to build bigger network on Linked.
