Assalamualaikum / Hi,
So, this entry will be in the English language because I'm expecting there might be international readers too in case they found my blog by incident because of keyword "Green Formosa Avengers" or "AIESEC UMP". Maybe lah, LOL.
And pleaaseee excuse my English writing skills. I'm still in progress of improving it by doing a lot of English Writing exercises such as blogging in English. Haha.
Actually, I just arrived home in Selangor on Saturday (January 30th), because I have been involved with a project organized by AIESEC UMP called Green Formosa Avengers. For short, we called it as GFA.
Few weeks before, after submitted a form to involve with this project, Alhamdulillah (Praise to Allah), I have been selected to be one of the Organizing Committee (OC). There were not so much of works to be handled by OC actually (especially for me as a Sponsor Unit member).
Because we have Exchange Participants (EP), which we also referred them as International Volunteers, to do the work. Yeah, that was the main reason why the EP came to UMP / Malaysia and joined this program - to handle this project fully and we as the OC's must be their EP's Buddy and facilitate them with their works.
For this 2nd Batch of GFA Project, it started on 21st December 2015 - 29th January 2016 with duration of about 6 weeks.
Within 6 weeks, there were Ice Breaking Session, Preparation Seminar, Preparation Days, School Roadshow at selected schools, GFA Conferences at the schools, City Tour (EP's were allowed to travel around Malaysia few days in a group), and the last one was Global Village.
Since at this time, UMP students are mostly having their semester break, the Global Village was held at Kuantan Parade Mall so that the EP's can socialize with Kuantan people.
What is actually GFA about ?
Green Formosa Avengers are likely as famous Avengers hero team that save the Earth from destruction by villains.
So do us (LOL) - but we are more focused on Environmental Issue in Malaysia, which then had been narrowed to specific issue which is Solid Waste Management.
But Why Solid Waste Management ?
Did you all know that Malaysians produced 23,000 - 30,000 tonnes of wastes per year ?
Approximately and averagely, a Malaysian produced 1kg of wastes per day,
per month will be 30kg of wastes by a person.
And currently, number of Malaysia citizens are about 23,000,0000 !
I'm not sure if this statistic included the foreigners who stay in this country or not.
Malaysia is having difficulty regarding Solid Waste Management as more lands are needed as landfill for wastes that are impossible to be recycled (due to large number of trash bags of mixed materials made impossible for segregation).
This issue arose because of improper management of solid wastes from the households. Hence, we decided to educate high school students of how to manage their solid wastes so we can save our environment.
According to Malay proverb, "Melentur Buluh Biar dari Rebungnya." (It is much easier to educate and train people since they were kids/teenagers so that they can make it as a good habit.)
Based on my observation, the EP's were successfully implemented fun ways in educating these teenagers about Solid Waste Management. Big applause for them from me !
Following were some of the pictures taken at the Conferences at selected schools which are SMK (P) Methodist Kuantan , SMK Abu Bakar & SMK St. Thomas.
